Fundraising

2024-2025 Fundraising Options:

This page lists information about this year's Purdy's Chocolate sales, Return-It bottle depot, and Donations through Scouts.ca.

For scouting youth who do fundraising we will allocate 20% of their sales to a holding fund.  If they choose to go to a jamboree while still a member of our group, that money will be available for them to use for the jamboree.  At the discretion of the group committee those funds may be allocated to be used for other special purposes. They have no cash value and cannot be redeemed if you leave the group.

Purdy's Easter Fundraiser

This year we will be doing a fundraiser where we'll ask our scouting families to sell Purdy's Chocolate bars.  We will have milk chocolate and dark chocolate bars. The cost is $4 per bar.  You can buy them individually or in any quantities. They come in small boxes of 20 which would be $80 worth.

Ordering:

Please place your order by April 2nd at the latest.  To place your order, email it to willingdonscouting@gmail.com with the subject line "Purdys" and include the following information:

Youth Name:
Section:
Qty Milk:
Qty Dark:
Total Qty:
Pmt Amount:
Pmt Method:

Multiply your total quantity by $4 to get the Pmt Amount.

Youth Name is important as it allows us to track your youth's fundraising as indicated at the top of this page.
Section should be Scouter, Colony, Pack, Troop, or Venturers.
Pmt Method can be e-Transfer, Cash or Cheque

Please, no cash for orders over $40. Cash must be in an envelope with your youth's name on it.  Cheque must have your youth's name in the memo field and the eTransfer must have your youth's name in the description field.  eTransfers must go to 4swgroup@gmail.com.

Safe Selling!

Here is a Scouts Canada link about safely selling popcorn. While we're selling chocolate, not popcorn, the same suggestions apply.

Delivery:

We expect to have chocolate ready for pickup at the all-sections campfire on Wednesday April 9 or the following Wednesday April 16 at Willingdon Church.

Return-It Depot - Active All Year!

Go to any Return-It depot and follow these instructions!
  1. Put your containers in clear plastic bags, no sorting needed!
  2. Go to an Express depot, at the kiosk use our group's emergency phone number 604-219-8394 to log in and print labels, one per bag (that's my cell number).
  3. Place a label on each of your bags and leave them in the bag drop area.
  4. Return-It will sort your containers and credit the group's Express account with your refund within 5 business days. We’ll get an email once the refund is in our account.
  5. Email us that you have done this with your youth's name and which Return-It depot you went to, as Return-It doesn't know who put the money in.
Give these instructions to your friends, co-workers, extended family. Let them know that your funds will support your youth in Willingdon's Burnaby 4SW Scouting group!  You will need to let me know the amount and who deposited it, so I can credit your youth in case they go to a jamboree or other special event.

Donations Through Scouts Canada - Active All Year!

You can put a donation into Scouts Canada using the Scouts Canada Online Donation Link:
https://www.scouts.ca/donate/online-ways-to-donate.html

Click on "Designated Gift":

In the "Scout Group" field, put "4th Southwest".

Fill in the rest of the form. Unless you choose to be anonymous, your name can be requested by us.  We recommend that you let us know if you've done this so that we can credit your youth with the donation.

Corporate Donations through Benevity

Some of you, like me, work for a company that has a program where they allow you to send out donations to a charity of your choice. Those donations may be based on volunteer hours you register with them or just funds made available for you to donate. One vendor that numerous companies use to do this is called Benevity.

Every year I log my volunteer hours and Coast Capital Savings gives me $10 for every hour I volunteer, up to a maximum.  I always donate that money to our group. Previously this involved putting a designation in the comment field, but now we’ve had Scouts Canada set us up under their umbrella charity as a special “Project”.

If your organization is using Benevity and you wish to allocate donations to our group, simply go to your company’s Benevity page and select “Make a Donation”.  In the search box, put “Scouts Canada - 4th Southwest” and click Search.  You should see “Scouts Canada - 4th Southwest Scout Group”.  We currently show up at the top, but you may need to scroll down to find us. If you do not see this, ask your organization if they can add Scouts Canada to their Benevity options.

See the image below for an idea of what it should look like:
